The Role of the Office of Senior Territorians
The Office of Senior Territorians engages with the community and government agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to the implementation of Government’s policy priorities for seniors. The Office also develops and delivers initiatives that improve the wellbeing of seniors and facilitates their contribution to Government decision-making.
The office’s activities include:
- The Active Ageing Framework highlights what the Northern Territory Government has already achieved, identifies priorities that will be addressed over the next five years, as well as ideas for community groups, organisations and businesses to assist people to age well.
- The Northern Territory Advisory Council on Ageing advises the Minister for Senior Territorians on issues about the ageing population and provides a direct avenue of communication between the community and Government.
- Seniors Month is held in August
to promote greater awareness
of the positive aspects of ageing and increase participation by
older people in social and recreational activities.
- StaySafe - an interactive website on health, security and safety around the home for seniors.
- Other government and community services are available in the Territory for seniors.
Please note: The Department of Health and Community Services now has responsibility for the Seniors Card Scheme.
